Another great option (along with the Twin Motor Gearbox) for wheeled or tracked robot builds, this kit features 2 independent gear trains which can each be assembled in one of four different ratios: 12.7:1, 38:1, 115:1 or 344:1. It has mounting holes compatible with the Universal Plate Set.
Included in the kit are two brushed DC hobby motors, gears, hardware, steel shafts, collars and screws. It also includes lubricant and a small allen wrench! A well thought out kit, as we've come to expect from Tamiya. It's possible to build the kit to output different gear ratios for each motor although we're not sure why you'd want to do that. Each gear ratio corresponds to one of two different output axle locations.
You may be wondering what's the difference between this gearbox and the similar Twin Motor Gearbox. In addition to offering different gear ratio options, this one is bit more stout (shorter and wider) with slightly wider gears to match. This should theoretically make the double gearbox stronger although we haven't substantiated that claim.
This gearbox features two motors with their own respective output shafts. Four different gear ratios may be selected and different ratios may be set for the left and right motors. The gearbox case, gears, and crank arm are made from durable plastic material while the shafts are made from metal. Two Type 130 motors included.
This gearbox can be paired with a Tamiya Remote Controller for various Educational Construction models such as bulldozers and tanks which require control of left and right outputs. Just like other Educational Construction Series items, the output shaft is a 3mm hex type.
